Willemijn Kallenberg Awarded MVP 11 August 2009

Netherlands star Willemijn Kallenberg had reason for a double celebration in Tallin as she was crowned the Tournament MVP.

The shooting guard was particularly influential in helping her team achieve success during the last two days of the tournament when she poured in 29 points across the semi-final and the final.

Netherlands continued their summer of remarkable success in Division B basketball as they followed up promotion to Division A by claiming the gold medal with a 71-59 success over Croatia.

Having already won top flight status in the U20 Men and U20 Women categories, the U16 women made light work of overcoming Croatia with a superb second half performance.

t was a glorious night in Tallinn for Croatia and Netherlands who both achieved promotion to Division A after picking up wins against Denmark and Slovak Republic to make it to the Final of the tournament.

Croatia destroyed Denmark 80-58 with a devastating first half performance. Already 19-10 ahead after the opening period, they blew their opponents away completely before half time when they outscored the Danes by 30-13.

Netherlands snatched victory from the jaws of defeat after twice blowing leads down the stretch to lose an overtime heartbreaker 71-73 against Denmark.

Leading 65-56 with four minutes of regulation left, they failed to score another bucket and even in overtime they still managed to make the same mistake again.

There were three blowouts in Tallinn as the Qualifying round got underway but there was one nail-biting classic as Portugal edged out Denmark 59-56.

The victorious team were up by eleven points at the half but allowed Denmark back into the game with a poor second half.

Hosts Estonia crashed out of the race for promotion to Division A on the final day of the group games after a disastrous 94-58 mauling by Israel.

The hosts were keeping pace after the first quarter but then crumbled completely either side of the half time break. Keren Mozes fired a game high 22 points to end the hopes of the home team.

Montenegro have Jelena Vucetic to thank for their first win in Tallin after a fabulous MVP performance of 43 points and 11 rebounds paved the way for a 95-69 success over Austria.

Montenegro managed to lay the foundations for the win courtesy of a blistering 36-13 first quarter.
